African Heritage Month - Delmore "Buddy" Daye was a famous Canadian boxer from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.  He became Canadian Junior Lightweight Boxing Champion on June 30th, 1964. He was also a community activist for Halifax North End and Africville. Daye ran for the Nova Scotia New Democratic Party in the electoral district of Halifax Needham in the 1967 provincial election.  In 1981, Daye was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.  In 1990, he became the first African Nova Scotian Sergeant-at-Arms for the Nova Scotia House of Assembly.  In 1996, his photograph was placed as a permanent memorial in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly.  In 2012, Delmore Buddy Daye Learning Institute was established and it creates educational and genuine opportunities for learners and communities of African ancestry to reach their full potential.
