January Updates
We have a few things up and coming. As we move through January we want to share some important dates and information.
Registration: We have started the Registration process. All program forms went home to students in 5,6, and 7. We have meet with all the feeder schools to welcome them to GPV for next year. We sent home a package to grade 5 families with a school letter, band information, program registration forms. We will have a Parent Registration Night for Grade 5 families on Feb 12, at 6-7. The Admin team went to each grade 6 class to talk to them about grade 7 and Late French Immersion. We will also have a Late French Immersion meeting on Feb 12, 2025 at 7:30 in the cafeteria. This meeting is an introduction to Late French Immersion and a time if families have any questions. We have also had Mrs Ferguson go to all grade 5,6,7 if they are interested in band program for next year. We will be sharing all the grade 8 Registration process from Lockview in the near future. Grade 8 students register using PowerSchool and it is a bit different process then grade 5,6,7.
Upcoming Weather- We will be watching the temperature and referring to the HRCE Wind Chill Safety Protocol to inform us on deciding if we stay in over the next couple of days. Please ensure students are dressed for the cold weather coming, Layers will be important to consider with the cold weather.
School dance: The next school dance is Feb 13, 2025. 7-9pm. The cost is $10.00. We will be posting Tickets online and will be selling in the office starting Feb 7, 2025.
SAC- Our next meeting is Feb 13, 2025. We meet on Jan 16, 2025 and those minutes will be approved Feb 13 and posted after that meeting.
African Heritage Month- February we will be honouring and celebrating African Heritage Month. We have booked the Maritime African Dance Group to come and present to all of our students. This is an interactive story telling, dance performance to celebrate African Heritage Month.
Equity- We are having presentations in February around creating inclusive spaces and increasing student awareness of resources that are made available to support student success.
Nora Bernard Day: Nora Bernard is this years Honouree for Heritage Day. She was Mi'kmaq activist who advocated for the survivors of the Residential Schools in Nova Scotia. She resided in Mill Brook and Truro.
