African Heritage Month - George Dixon from Africville, Nova Scotia was the first black World Champion in any weight class.  He held three separate titles, paperweight, featherweight and bantamweight.  He fought in about 130 bouts and had more than 30 title defences.  He was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1955, Ring Magazine Hall of Fame in 1956 and International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.  A recreation centre located on Brunswick Street in Halifax is named in his honour.  In 2018, Dixon was named one of the greatest 15 athletes in Nova Scotia's history, ranking sixth.  Arguably his most important innovation, though, was shadowboxing.

Happy birthday to Jake, Josie and Bradley.

Have a great Tuesday!
