African Heritage Month - Edith Clayton from East Preston, Nova Scotia and a descendant of the Black Loyalist was well known as a legendary basket weaver. The basket weaving technique that she used originated in Africa and was passed along from mother to daughter over six generations. She sold her baskets at craft fairs across Canada and also taught classes in basket making. In 1977, she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal. In 1986, Edith Clayton traveled to Vancouver to demonstrate her technique and display her work in the Canadian Pavilion at Expo 86. Edith Clayton's baskets are held in museums and homes across Canada and around the world.
Happy birthday to Nathan, Ryan and Rachel.
Have a great Wednesday!
